O’Neill Sea Odyssey – Diane Rejman

This collection includes photos of the Monterey Bay from Beach Hill in Santa Cruz, taken over a period of four winters. The Santa Cruz Wharf is a central figure in most of them. The personalities of the ocean make it a very interesting and beautiful collection. It includes photos of the Wharf in the morning, with all the colors of sunsets, fog, storms, sunny days, sailboats and – believe it or not – even snow!

“As a photographer, I don’t feel I ‘create’ beauty. These images existed whether or not I photographed them. I was fortunate to have the right set of skills to know how to capture the beauty created by Nature. These photographs were a gift to me, when I was blessed with the opportunity to be able to take them. I am very happy to be able to share this gift.

“I am also extremely honored the O’Neill Sea Odyssey (OSO) agreed to feature these photos for their first ever First Friday Art Walk. I believed the debut of these photos deserved a special event. I love the O’Neill Sea Odyssey’s mission, teaching children about the wonders of the ocean. First, the children are brought out on the Monterey Bay on a catamaran for an educational sail. They then return to the OSO’s lab for additional classes. The OSO has brought over 60,000 children through their program! Many of these children have never even seen the ocean before. With all the pain in the world, this is a program that brings joy. I couldn’t imagine a better pairing of the debut of these photos with any other organization.”

After moving 28 times to get here, Diane has lived in Santa Cruz for 5 ½ years.
